Blood Sugar Converter
Switch between mg/dL and mmol/L, and check whether a reading is in the usual range for the time it was taken.

Reference ranges
- Fasting: under 100 mg/dL normal, 100 to 125 prediabetes range, 126 or more diabetes range
- 2 hours after a meal: under 140 mg/dL normal, 140 to 199 prediabetes range, 200 or more high
- Below 70 mg/dL is low sugar
1 mmol/L = 18 mg/dL. One reading is not a diagnosis; repeat tests and your doctor decide.
mg/dL to mmol/L conversion chart
Glucose in mg/dL = mmol/L × 18.016. Glucose in mmol/L = mg/dL ÷ 18.016. Many people round to 18.
- 70: mmol/L 3.9
- 100: mmol/L 5.6
- 126: mmol/L 7.0
- 140: mmol/L 7.8
- 180: mmol/L 10.0
- 200: mmol/L 11.1
- 250: mmol/L 13.9
- 300: mmol/L 16.7
Which unit is used where
India, the USA, Japan and many other countries report glucose in mg/dL. The UK, Canada, Australia and much of Europe use mmol/L. If you travel or read a foreign report, convert before comparing with a target.
Common questions
How do I convert mmol/L to mg/dL?
Multiply by 18.016. For example 7 mmol/L is about 126 mg/dL.
How do I convert mg/dL to mmol/L?
Divide by 18.016. For example 180 mg/dL is 10.0 mmol/L.
Why are there two units for blood sugar?
Different countries standardised on different units. mg/dL measures mass per volume and mmol/L measures molecules per volume; they describe the same sugar level.
Is 5.6 mmol/L a normal fasting sugar?
5.6 mmol/L is about 100 mg/dL, the lower edge of the prediabetes range for a fasting reading. Below 5.6 mmol/L (100 mg/dL) is normal.
Is 18 or 18.016 the right factor?
The exact factor is 18.016. Using 18 changes results by less than 0.1%, which is fine for everyday use.
